 SEPTEMBER 2006
Osborne Samuel
We do hope you enjoyed your summer break. For us at the gallery August was a rare interlude without a formal exhibition but we more than make up for this with a very busy September schedule.

We are exhibiting as usual at the prestigious 20/21 British Art Fair at the Royal College of Art, London. This has become an annual highlight for the gallery and the collection we are taking this year is of the highest quality and diversity.

This is swiftly followed by the much anticipated exhibition of painting and sculpture by Manisha Parekh, whose delicate and intricate works have placed her amongst the most sought after of the new generation of Indian artists. Do come and see what promises to be an outstanding exhibition.

Then later in the month we are holding a significant exhibition of paintings and drawings by Edward Wadsworth, in conjunction with the estate and Dr. Jonathan Black. We will also be launching Dr. Black’s new Wadsworth catalogue raisonné.

And finally do visit our new look website, www.osbornesamuel.com. We have completely overhauled the site which is now easier to navigate and more informative.

We hope to see you at the fair or in the gallery soon,

Peter Osborne and Gordon Samuel

Manisha Parekh

New Paintings

14 -27 September

Manisha Parekh (b. 1964) is a New Delhi based artist who has emerged as one of the significant young Indian artists with skillfully executed graphics and ambitious conceptual, site-specific installations. The main thrust of Manisha’s style has always been that of clear, scientific structure, concentrating on form over colour and exploring densities, opacity and transparency. She uses harmonious forms that are linked and unfold a larger vision.

The exhibition preview will be from 6 – 8pm on
Thursday 14 September. For more details of the works

Edward Wadsworth (1889 - 1949)

The Rhythm of Things Painting and Sculpture

28 September - 21 October

In his introduction to the eagerly anticipated Wadsworth exhibition at Tooth’s Gallery, London, in May 1929, Léonce Rosenberg, a leading champion of European artistic Modernism, wrote: ‘Wadsworth is not merely the name of a painter, but also of an event.’ It is a clear indication of how highly Wadsworth was regarded that Rosenberg, art critic, dealer and publisher of cutting edge Parisian art journal, the Bulletin de L’Effort Moderne, should refer to Edward Wadsworth in such glowing terms. The present exhibition should indeed be regarded as an ‘event’ – the first devoted to Wadsworth in the UK in over fifteen years. It provides an excellent opportunity to reassess an artist who played a leading role in the early Twentieth century revival of tempera painting, alongside Giorgio de Chirico and Gino Severini, was a key member of the major British avant-garde art movement of Vorticism and whose powerful and compelling contribution to pictorial abstraction won the admiration of such giants of European artistic modernism as Fernand Léger, Max Ernst, Theo van Doesburg and Wassily Kandinsky – most of whom were introduced to Wadsworth by Rosenberg in Paris during the late 1920’s.
