Newsletter

 SEPTEMBER 2005
Osborne Samuel
Welcome to the launch of the Osborne Samuel newsletter which will be sent out monthly by email and which will also be available to view on our website. It will cover the gallery's forthcoming programme of exhibitions, new acquisitions and other news and projects.

This issue covers George Dannatt's first major London retrospective opening at the gallery in September as well as the '20/21 British Art Fair 2005 at the Royal College of Art where we are long-standing exhibitors. The 'Sculpture in the Workplace' event to be held at Canary Wharf opens on Wednesday 7th September, showing the work of Sophie Ryder. Our successful Berkeley Square Gallery series of exhibitions of Indian contemporary art continues with a major exhibition of Krishen Khanna. This follows on from the sell out S. H. Raza and Manu Parekh exhibitions held at the gallery earlier in the year.

We hope you enjoy these newsletters. We would appreciate your feedback and look forward to seeing you in the gallery soon.

Our opening hours are 10am-6pm Monday-Friday and 10am-2pm on Saturday. We will continue to send you further issues, but if you wish to un-subscribe or amend your email details contact Lucy Tyler: ltyler@osbornesamuel.com

George Dannatt

Paintings Drawings & Constructions
A RETROSPECTIVE

and a selection of works from the George & Ann Dannatt Collection

13 September - 1 October 2005

Private View: Tuesday 13 September 2005 6 - 8pm

Osborne Samuel is delighted to present this long overdue retrospective for George Dannatt on the occasion of his 90 birthday, marked appropriately with this, his first major London exhibition. George knew and worked with several of the leading St. Ives artists of the post war years, notably John Wells and Denis Mitchell. Over the years, he and his wife Ann have assembled a remarkable collection by his friends and contemporaries. This collection includes outstanding works by Robert Adams, Terry Frost, Roger Hilton, John Tunnard and John Wells, some of which will be included in our exhibition.

As a painter, Dannatt is drawn principally to landscape, around which he fits his elegant geometries. Less often he deploys them in purely abstract canvases. He is technically versatile, making drawings, prints and constructions in addtion to his paintings. Dannatt's paintings lie visibly within the legacy of St Ives.

KRISHEN KHANNA
6 - 22 OCTOBER 2005

Private View: Wednesday 5 October 2005 6 - 8pm

"I scratch at the surface of a wound, but I am not a healer", says Krishen Khanna of his art and its purpose. In viewing Krishen Khanna's work, it is his background as an artist and observer of a historical context that provides a backdrop with which to view this collection of recent works. His images provide a series of narratives on contemporary and historic events that allow us to question and address issues on a personal level of relevance.

This exhibition is in collaboration with Saffronart and is part of an ongoing programme of exhibitions of the best known Indian contemporary artists.

  Publications

We have an extensive collection of books and catalogues covering many of the artists we represent and the exhibitions we have shown. Recent publications include Manu Parekh's Banaras, the religious capital of India, which brings together, for the first time, seventy five paintings from Manu Parekh's Banaras series. Also available is the catalogue from the well received exhibition Nine Abstract Artists - Revisited. This incorporates a facsimile of the significant 1954 publication of the same name.
